About elections in Vietnam
I'm Bartłomiej Paruzel, and I built ElectioMap to map national elections around the world. This is the Vietnam hub on ElectioMap — it brings together the Vietnam election I cover, with the official result, vote and turnout shares to two decimal places, and, where the electoral authority publishes an official regional breakdown, an interactive map you can explore region by region.
Vietnam is a single-party socialist republic governed by the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) since the reunification of north and south in 1975, following decades of colonial rule under France, Japanese occupation, and the Vietnam War. The 500-seat National Assembly (Quoc Hoi) is elected every five years from 184 multi-member constituencies; all candidates must be approved by the Vietnamese Fatherland Front (VFF), a CPV-controlled mass organisation. The VFF vets candidates through multiple rounds, and the resulting Assembly is composed almost entirely of CPV members. The Assembly formally elects the president, prime minister, and National Assembly chairperson on the CPV's recommendations; real decision-making power rests with the CPV's Politburo and its 13-member standing committee. The General Secretary of the CPV is the most powerful position; To Lam assumed this role in 2024 following the death of Nguyen Phu Trong. Vietnam has pursued "doi moi" (renovation) market economic reforms since 1986, becoming one of Asia's fastest-growing economies through manufacturing exports (electronics, textiles, footwear), foreign direct investment (especially from Samsung, Intel, and other tech firms), and tourism. Vietnam faces challenges including corruption, environmental degradation, unequal rural-urban development, and managing relations with China over South China Sea territorial disputes while maintaining the CPV's political monopoly. Press freedom, political dissent, and religious activity for unregistered groups are severely restricted. The National Election Council administers elections.

Every figure on ElectioMap is taken from the official electoral authority for Vietnam — the national election commission or equivalent body that certifies the count. I enter vote and turnout percentages exactly as published, to two decimal places and without rounding, and show seat totals wherever a chamber is being filled.
