This Privacy Policy explains how ElectioMap ("ElectioMap", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses and protects information when you visit electiomap.com (the "Site"). We are committed to handling your data responsibly and to being transparent about the limited information we process.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

The Site does not have user accounts or contact forms that store data. If you choose to email us (see the Contact page), we will receive the email address you write from and any information you include in your message, solely to respond to you.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our hosting and content-delivery infrastructure automatically records standard technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and version, device type, referring page, and the date and time of your request. This information is used for security, to diagnose problems, and to understand aggregate traffic. We store your theme preference (light or dark) and selected language locally in your browser using localStorage; this never leaves your device and is not shared with us.

2. Cookies and similar technologies

A cookie is a small text file stored on your device. ElectioMap itself does not set advertising or tracking cookies. However, third-party services we use — in particular Mediavine and its advertising partners — may set cookies to deliver and measure advertising. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time; doing so will not prevent you from reading content on the Site.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC) and Grow, an audience-measurement service from Mediavine, to understand aggregate traffic — page views, sessions, referring sites and country-level location. Both store an identifier in your browser (cookie or localStorage) so that a returning reader is counted as one visitor rather than several. We do not use either service to identify you personally. You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google's browser add-on, and clearing your browser's cookies and site data removes both services' identifiers.

3. Advertising — Mediavine

Ads on ElectioMap are managed by Mediavine, which keeps the Site free to use. Mediavine's required disclosure follows.

Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)

The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.

First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements. Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps. This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor’s referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.

Automatically collected technical logs are retained only as long as needed for security and operational purposes. We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, though no method of transmission over the Internet is completely secure.

9. Third-party links

The Site links to external sources such as official electoral authorities. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites and encourage you to read their privacy policies.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will be reflected on this page.
