Editorial Policy

ElectioMap is committed to strict political neutrality and factual accuracy. We publish numbers — never opinions. This page sets out the principles that guide every decision we make.

Core principles

Political neutrality

We have no political affiliation of any kind. We do not endorse, oppose or favor any candidate, party, or political position.

Facts only

We publish official vote counts, percentages, turnout figures and seat allocations. We do not add commentary, analysis or editorial framing.

Full independence

ElectioMap is not affiliated with any government, electoral commission, media organization, political party or advocacy group.

Transparency

Every result page links directly to the official source. We clearly distinguish preliminary from final results and disclose when non-official sources are used.

Independence and funding

ElectioMap is an independent project built and maintained by a single developer. It is funded entirely through display advertising. Advertising revenue has no influence whatsoever on which elections we cover, how results are displayed, or any other editorial decision. Advertisers have no access to editorial content and no say in it.

We accept no payments, sponsorships or commissions from political campaigns, governments, lobbying organizations or any other entity with a stake in election outcomes.

What we publish — and what we don't

ElectioMap is a data visualization and archiving service, not a news publisher. We do not write articles, make projections, call races, or offer political analysis. Our content consists of:

We do not publish exit polls, opinion polls, predictions, endorsements, or commentary of any kind.

Election coverage decisions

We aim to cover all significant national elections worldwide. Coverage priorities are determined by the following criteria, applied in order:

  1. Public significance — national elections (parliamentary, presidential, general) take precedence over regional or municipal contests
  2. Data availability — we require a reliable, machine-readable official source; if no such source exists, live coverage is not possible
  3. Geographic diversity — we actively seek coverage across all continents and political systems, not just high-income democracies

Decisions to add or drop an election are made solely on these operational grounds. We do not avoid covering an election because of its political context, the nature of the regime, or the likely outcome.

Historical archive: We continuously add historical election results from previous years, prioritizing elections with the highest public interest and the clearest available official data. Suggestions for additions are welcome via the contact page.

Candidate and party labeling

We use official candidate and party names exactly as they appear in the records of the relevant electoral authority, translated to English where necessary. We do not apply alternative names, colloquial descriptions, or labels that could be perceived as politically loaded. Where an official English translation exists, we use it; where it does not, we transliterate as faithfully as possible.

Accuracy and corrections

Accuracy is our highest editorial priority. We take the following steps to maintain it:

When a correction is made to historical data, and the error was material (i.e. could have misled a reader about the outcome), we note it on the affected page. Minor corrections (typographical errors in labels, formatting) are fixed silently.

To report an error, please use our contact page or email contact@electiomap.com. We respond to all accuracy-related reports.

Complaints

If you believe we have published inaccurate data, failed to correct an error in a reasonable time, or otherwise acted contrary to this policy, please contact us in writing at contact@electiomap.com. We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 business days and provide a substantive response within 14 business days.

Policy updates

This policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or the addition of new types of content. The current version is always available at this URL. Significant changes will be noted at the top of this page.
