I'm Bartłomiej Paruzel, and I built ElectioMap to map national elections around the world. This is the United States hub on ElectioMap — it brings together the 13 United States elections I cover, each with the official results, vote and turnout shares to two decimal places, and an interactive map you can explore region by region.

The political system of United States

The United States is a federal presidential republic and the world's oldest continuous constitutional democracy, governed under a written constitution ratified in 1788 that separates power among an executive president, a bicameral Congress and an independent judiciary. Federal elections are held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November of even-numbered years. Every four years voters choose the president and vice-president — not directly, but through the Electoral College, in which each state casts electoral votes equal to its combined House and Senate seats (538 in total, with 270 needed to win); all states except Maine and Nebraska award their electors winner-take-all to the statewide victor. Simultaneously, all 435 seats of the House of Representatives are contested every two years, elected by first-past-the-post in single-member districts apportioned to states by population and redrawn after each decennial census. The Senate has 100 members — two per state regardless of size — serving staggered six-year terms, so roughly one-third of the chamber (a "class") is up at each election; the vice-president breaks Senate ties. American politics is dominated by two broad parties: the Democratic Party (centre-left, associated with the colour blue) and the Republican Party (centre-right, associated with red), a duopoly entrenched by the winner-take-all electoral system. Since 2016 the country has experienced unusually volatile national elections: Republican Donald Trump won the presidency in 2016, lost it to Democrat Joe Biden in 2020, and won it back in 2024, while control of the House and Senate has changed hands repeatedly. Elections are administered by the individual states rather than a single national body; the Federal Election Commission (FEC) regulates campaign finance and compiles the official federal results, and the Electoral College formally meets in December with Congress certifying the count the following January. This page collects United States federal election results since 2016 — presidential, House and Senate — with interactive state-by-state maps.

Elections covered on this page

Each election listed here has its own page with the full breakdown by party or candidate and an interactive map of the result.

How these results are compiled

Every figure on ElectioMap is taken from the official electoral authority for United States — the national election commission or equivalent body that certifies the count. I enter vote and turnout percentages exactly as published, to two decimal places and without rounding, and show seat totals wherever a chamber is being filled. When ElectioMap covers an election live, the page updates automatically as official figures are released. For the full sourcing and update policy, see Data & Methodology and the Editorial Policy.
