About elections in Slovenia
I'm Bartłomiej Paruzel, and I built ElectioMap to map national elections around the world. Slovenia is a parliamentary republic and one of the most prosperous nations to emerge from the former Yugoslavia. It declared independence in June 1991 and joined the European Union and NATO in 2004. The 90-seat unicameral National Assembly (Drzavni Zbor) is elected by proportional representation from 8 multi-member constituencies with a 4% threshold; an additional 2 seats are permanently reserved for Hungarian and Italian minority communities. A 40-seat National Council (upper house) has an advisory role. The prime minister leads the executive; the president is directly elected as head of state with primarily representative functions. Robert Golob's Freedom Movement (Gibanje Svoboda, liberal) won the April 2022 elections in a landslide, ending the tenure of populist PM Janez Jansa of the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS, EPP). In the March 2026 parliamentary elections the Freedom Movement again finished first, but only by a single seat over a resurgent SDS; Golob failed to form a government, and SDS leader Janez Jansa built a right-wing coalition and returned as prime minister for a fourth time. Key political forces include Freedom Movement, SDS, SD (Social Democrats), NSi (New Slovenia, Christian-democratic), and the Left. Slovenia has a small but highly developed export-oriented economy, with strong automotive, pharmaceutical, and logistics sectors. Challenges include an ageing population, housing affordability, and healthcare system capacity. The State Election Commission (dvk.gov.si) administers Slovenian elections, which are known for transparency and professionalism.

Every figure on ElectioMap is taken from the official electoral authority for Slovenia — the national election commission or equivalent body that certifies the count. I enter vote and turnout percentages exactly as published, to two decimal places and without rounding, and show seat totals wherever a chamber is being filled.
