About elections in Russia
I'm Bartłomiej Paruzel, and I built ElectioMap to map national elections around the world. This is the Russia hub on ElectioMap — it brings together the 5 Russia elections I cover: 4 with the official results, vote and turnout shares to two decimal places (and, where the electoral authority publishes an official regional breakdown, an interactive map you can explore region by region), plus a preview of the upcoming vote.
Russia's federal elections take place in a tightly controlled political system. The State Duma, the 450-seat lower house of the Federal Assembly, is elected every five years through a parallel (mixed) system — 225 seats by closed-list proportional representation with a 5% threshold and 225 in single-member districts by first-past-the-post — a design that has repeatedly converted United Russia's list vote into a constitutional supermajority. The president is elected for six years by two-round majority, though no post-Soviet presidential election has gone to a runoff. Since 2020, multi-day voting and remote electronic voting have become standard, and genuine opposition has been eliminated from the ballot: Alexei Navalny died in prison in February 2024, and anti-war candidates are routinely disqualified. Elections are administered by the Central Election Commission (CIK); international observers and independent statisticians have documented large-scale irregularities in every recent federal vote. Every figure on ElectioMap is taken from the official electoral authority for Russia — the national election commission or equivalent body that certifies the count. I enter vote and turnout percentages exactly as published, to two decimal places and without rounding, and show seat totals wherever a chamber is being filled.
