About elections in Myanmar
I'm Bartłomiej Paruzel, and I built ElectioMap to map national elections around the world. Myanmar (also known as Burma) is a nation of approximately 54 million people in Southeast Asia, bordering Thailand, Laos, China, India, and Bangladesh. Since the military (Tatmadaw) coup of February 2021, the country has been governed by the State Administration Council (SAC) junta led by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. The coup ended a decade of partial democratic transition in which Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD) had governed since 2016. Following the coup, the NLD was dissolved, and Suu Kyi was convicted on multiple politically motivated charges and remains imprisoned. Myanmar has been engulfed in a multi-front civil war: People's Defence Forces aligned with the exiled National Unity Government, over 20 ethnic armed organisations, and new resistance militias fight against the SAC. By 2026, the junta controlled fewer than half of the country's townships. The junta's 2025-2026 elections, conducted in phases without independent oversight, were internationally condemned as illegitimate. Under the 2008 constitution, 25% of parliamentary seats are permanently reserved for military appointees. Myanmar's economy has contracted sharply since the coup, with collapsed foreign investment, currency depreciation, and humanitarian crises in conflict zones. The ethnic minority situation — including the Rohingya genocide that drove 700,000 people to Bangladesh in 2017 — remained unresolved. The Union Election Commission (UEC) operates under junta control.

Every figure on ElectioMap is taken from the official electoral authority for Myanmar — the national election commission or equivalent body that certifies the count. I enter vote and turnout percentages exactly as published, to two decimal places and without rounding, and show seat totals wherever a chamber is being filled.
