About elections in Kazakhstan
I'm Bartłomiej Paruzel, and I built ElectioMap to map national elections around the world. This is the Kazakhstan hub on ElectioMap — it brings together the 2 Kazakhstan elections I cover: one with the official results, vote and turnout shares to two decimal places (and, where the electoral authority publishes an official regional breakdown, an interactive map you can explore region by region), plus a preview of the upcoming vote.
Kazakhstan is a presidential republic in Central Asia and the world's largest landlocked country. Since independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, it was ruled by Nursultan Nazarbayev until his resignation in 2019. His chosen successor, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, subsequently moved to reduce Nazarbayev's formal institutional power, particularly after the Bloody January 2022 protests. Kazakhstan launched a "New Kazakhstan" reform programme including constitutional referendums in 2022 and 2026. The 2026 referendum approved the abolition of the Senate and the creation of a unicameral parliament called the Kurultai. Previously the 107-seat Mazhilis (lower house) used a mixed system (98 seats proportional, 9 seats for the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan). The Amanat party (formerly Nur Otan, the renamed ruling party) dominates the political landscape; other parties exist but pose no meaningful electoral challenge. Kazakhstan holds vast reserves of oil, gas, uranium, and minerals. The country is geopolitically positioned between Russia (a long border), China, and Central Asian neighbours. Democratic governance remains constrained: independent media operate under significant pressure, civil society organisations face legal challenges, and political opposition is marginal. Presidential elections have been contested only by token opposition figures. The Central Election Commission (election.gov.kz) administers elections.

Every figure on ElectioMap is taken from the official electoral authority for Kazakhstan — the national election commission or equivalent body that certifies the count. I enter vote and turnout percentages exactly as published, to two decimal places and without rounding, and show seat totals wherever a chamber is being filled.
