About elections in Cyprus
I'm Bartłomiej Paruzel, and I built ElectioMap to map national elections around the world. The Republic of Cyprus is a presidential republic and European Union member since 2004. The 80-seat unicameral House of Representatives is elected by proportional representation from six constituencies; a 3.6% threshold applies. The president serves five-year terms and acts as head of both state and government, holding broad executive powers. Cyprus has been divided since the Turkish military intervention of 1974: the southern Republic of Cyprus governs the internationally recognised part of the island, while the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC, recognised only by Turkey) administers the north. The UN Buffer Zone separates them. Key political parties in the Republic include DISY (Democratic Rally, centre-right), AKEL (Progressive Party of Working People, communist/left), DIKO (Democratic Party, centrist), EDEK (Movement for Social Democracy), and the Greens. Nikos Christodoulides, a former foreign minister running as an independent backed by DIKO and others, won the February 2023 presidential election, defeating AKEL's Andreas Mavroyiannis in the second round. Cyprus's economy transitioned from offshore financial services after a banking crisis in 2013 to tourism, shipping, and emerging tech sectors. The Cyprus problem — reunification of the island — remains unresolved after decades of UN-mediated talks. The Electoral Service of the Republic of Cyprus administers elections (elections.moi.gov.cy).

Every figure on ElectioMap is taken from the official electoral authority for Cyprus — the national election commission or equivalent body that certifies the count. I enter vote and turnout percentages exactly as published, to two decimal places and without rounding, and show seat totals wherever a chamber is being filled.
