About elections in Cape Verde
I'm Bartłomiej Paruzel, and I built ElectioMap to map national elections around the world. Cape Verde (Cabo Verde) is an archipelago of 10 islands in the Atlantic Ocean off West Africa and one of Africa's most stable democracies. The 72-seat unicameral National Assembly is elected by proportional representation, with constituencies in each of the inhabited islands. The prime minister is the head of government; the president is directly elected and plays a significant moderating role. Cape Verde has maintained uninterrupted competitive democracy since its transition from single-party rule in 1991. Politics alternates between two dominant parties: the Movement for Democracy (MpD), a liberal-conservative party, and the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC successor, PAICV), a social-democratic party. Ulisses Correia Silva's MpD has governed since winning elections in 2016 and retained power in 2021. Cape Verde joined the WTO, is a member of the African Union, and has a special partnership with the European Union. Despite limited natural resources, Cape Verde has achieved significant development through remittances, tourism, and sound economic governance — it graduated from least-developed-country status in 2007. The archipelago faces challenges including water scarcity, dependence on food imports, and vulnerability to climate change. The National Electoral Commission (CNE) administers elections with results published at www.are.cv (Electoral Administration). Cape Verde is consistently ranked among Africa's freest political systems by international indices.

I enter vote and turnout percentages exactly as published, to two decimal places and without rounding, and show seat totals wherever a chamber is being filled.
